Bars & Nightlife in St. Augustine

When darkness falls on the Oldest City, the colonial lanes glow with lamplight — bayfront martini bars, taverns that have poured for generations, and live music drifting from under ancient oaks.

Know Before You Go

A few ground rules will keep your night in the Oldest City running smoothly — including one big difference from other historic Southern cities you may have visited.

No To-Go Cups Here Unlike Savannah, St. Augustine does not allow open containers on public streets. Finish your drink before you wander — the city enforces it.
Always Carry Your ID Bars and restaurants card every customer regardless of apparent age. No ID, no drink.
Nights Run Late Most downtown bars pour until midnight or later, and a few classics keep going to 2am. The colonial quarter is residential, so keep voices low in the lanes.

The Nights of Lights Effect From mid-November through January, every bar downtown runs at capacity nightly. Arrive early, expect waits, and consider the Lincolnville and Anastasia spots when the quarter is packed.
Getting Home Safely Never drive after drinking. Uber and Lyft are readily available citywide, the free STAR Circulator runs until 10pm, and most of these bars are an easy walk from downtown lodging.
